LMU dates to 1472 and teaches across the centre of Munich, covering humanities, sciences, medicine, law and economics rather than the engineering focus of its neighbour TUM.

There is no tuition fee at Bavarian public universities beyond the semester contribution, but Munich has the highest rents in Germany, which the blocked account has to cover.
